Muscular Dystrophy Canada
Since 1954, dedicated volunteers and staff across the country have been raising funds to support the independence and full participation of Canadians with neuromuscular disorders.
Muscular Dystrophy is the name for a group of neuromuscular disorders that are characterized by progressive weakness and wasting of the voluntary muscles that control body movement.
There are more than 100 neuromuscular disorders covered under the umbrella of Muscular Dystrophy Canada. More than 50,000 Canadians are affected by neuromuscular disorders. Over time, persons with neuromuscular disorders may lose the ability to walk, speak, and ultimately breathe. For some individuals, the disorder is fatal.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada helps with the purchase of essential equipment, refers people to community resources, facilitates educational workshops, forums, conferences and school programs, and provides up-to-date information neuromuscular disorders, research and support services.
The Walk for Muscular Dystrophy, Buck 4 Luck, and HOP for Muscular Dystrophy events are some of the opportunities for people to support Canadian affected by neuromuscular disorders and have fun at the same time.
