Organ Donation - Canadian Transplant Society

We wish to help the thousands of people in Canada who are right now waiting for transplant organs. Our aim is to raise awareness about this life or death matter. My wife like others in a similar situation, spent years on a liver transplant list, her health deteriorating daily. When she fell into a coma we were told to expect the worst. Miraculously, when she had no more than a day to live, a liver was found. Today she is happy and recovering, looking forward to emerging from her long years of illness. It was this experience that led me to start this charity. With your help, we can help people like Lise to live their lives.

We will enhance the existing databases of the various provincial organ donation registries. These databases manage the distribution and administration of all registered organ donors.

We will establish The Family and Friends Program to help increase communication between donors and family members. Family members often veto a relative’s desire to donate an organ because it was never openly discussed.

We will supply state-of-the-art organ transportation units to provincial hospitals, which preserve an organ longer after it’s been taken out of the body and we will establish and maintain hospital cold room storage facilities that will enhance the viability and stability of organs.

Moreover, we will educate the public about the many possible benefits to be had through transplant procedures. Today, transplants can

• Remove the need for long-time dialysis
• Cure diabetes
• Prevent amputations
• Repair Childhood heart problems
• Assist in heart bypass surgery
• Correct birth defects
• Replace cystic fibrosis diseased lungs with healthy ones
• Replace disfigured facial accident victims with a new cosmetic solution

THE CANADIAN TRANSPLANT SOCIETY IS NOT TRYING TO FIND CURES - THE CURES ALREADY EXIST. YOUR INVOLVEMENT WILL HELP BRING PROVEN CURES TO PEOPLE WHO DESPERATELY NEED THEM.
